A cake smash is a photoshoot that centers around Baby's first birthday. Here's what we do: We start with traditional portraits. Bring one or two outfits for this portion of the shoot. What's next? The cake smash. Sit back, and watch your baby enjoy the experience of diving into her first cake. I will be busy photographing the entire experience. Now we have one very messy baby. After cleaning her up, it's time for a bubble bath.  For the final shots, we go for the butt shot (example below) and sometimes we get a picture of Baby in a hooded towel.  A cake smash photo session is full of activity.  It holds your child's attention. It engages her, and this translates into some pretty great pictures.

What to Bring:

One (or two) outfits for traditional pictures and an outfit for the cake smash. There are lots of options that we can discuss in terms of what Baby wears during the cake smash. It can be as simple as a colored diaper cover. If interested, I have a collection of crowns that you can choose from. For a list of studio props available, check out this link. Heart what you would like to use for session, and I will have it ready.

Another great resource is Trisha of E&H Handmade. She makes wonderful outfits and banners for cake smashes.

Also Bring:

Something for your baby to drink. Eating frosting makes anyone thirsty. A bottle of water is helpful.

Any favorite toy or items that you want included in the photoshoot.

A small cake. The best kind of cake is a white, light (not dense) cake. A creamier frosting works better than stiff frosting. Bright colors photograph well. Remove cake from your refrigerator at least two hours before your photoshoot. I provide rainbow-colored sprinkles to throw on the cake as things get "ugly."

A towel for after bath time. For the bubble bath, I use Bubble Pods because it creates amazing bubbles. If you prefer a different soap, please bring it along. I also provide rubber duckies, but feel free to bring your child's bath toy if your prefer.

A cake smash session comes with 25-30 digital downloads. Cost: $235
